Creative Tips for Managing Your ADHD from the Professionals, People with ADHD
The 3-Minute Timer Trick
When you have a lot to do and not much time, try setting a repeating timer for just 3 minutes.
Three minutes feels small enough that your brain is less likely to resist getting started. But you’d be surprised how much you can accomplish when you’re fully focused for even a few minutes at a time.
The real magic happens when the timer goes off.
If it feels like it rang immediately, that’s often a clue that your attention drifted. Maybe you started daydreaming, got sidetracked by another task, or found yourself focusing on something less important.
Instead of judging yourself, use the timer as a gentle reset. Ask: “Am I working on what I intended to be working on?”
For many people with ADHD, frequent check-ins can be more effective than relying on motivation or willpower alone.
Sometimes staying on track isn’t about working harder — it’s about returning your attention more often.
